Using two unmanaged switches with one router

35 10 October 21, 2017 at 06:58 PM
I have a two story townhouse . I only have one Ethernet outlet on second floor. I want to hardware all my TV,cable box, Roku etc . Can I run one line off the router downstairs, connect a 8 port switch and then run a second line off the router to an office on the second floor and use a second 8 port switch ?
Also Instead of using the 8 port switch can I use an older router Netgear AC1900 as a wired access point and use the open ports to hardware devices in the office ?
Thanks

Yes you can add two unmanaged switches to a router

The other way would need to be setup into bridge mode, but should work too

Thank you . For the office which would be better , using the Netgear router set up in bridge mode ( which I already have but not currently using ) or a switch ?

Since you just want more wired ports just do the unmanaged switches- they are plug and play.
