Have the same model with 7200u, very happy with it. It has every feature I want: fast fingertip scan, lightweighted, fast cpu for office and surfing, 2in1, pen support, and it was reasonably priced at $700.

I'm a little confused. First, Lenovo's page lists it as two USB C but only one being thunderbolt and doesn't clarify if there's any difference between the 7th and 8th gen cpu models. Also, the ones listed as w/ active stylus are in the higher end which starts around 1700 so I doubt this is one. Does that mean it is not compatible with the pen or that it just doesn't come with one? The model number bestbuy lists for this doesn't appear on Lenovo's page. (maybe a bestbuy specific model?) Finally, is this compatible with egpus? I know Asus listed laptops as having thunderbolt 3 but couldn't make use of egpus because they were gimped versions.

Although I'd prefer a zenbook 3 deluxe, at less than half the price with very similar specs (even without 2 ports) this is an amazing deal. I can't wait for Black Friday laptop sales this year.

Both are Thunderbolt. I have checked from the Lenovo product page. And aprt from upgrading the Processor, there is no difference between the models. And where did you find Lenovo listing one port being Thunderbolt?
Below is the exact words mentioned in their Product Page:
Quote :
2 x USB Type-C with Thunderbolt™
USB 3.0
Audio jack

On their 720 general info page I'm seeing:

Versatile Connectivity with Thunderbolt™ & USB Ports

"The Yoga 720 features two Type-C USB ports, one of which offers revolutionary Thunderbolt support, delivering lightning-fast connectivity and convenience—whether you're charging, transferring files or want to connect your screen to a larger display. Read more here."

I don't see the quote you mentioned anywhere on Lenovo's page, only bestbuy.

Best buy representative told me that the thunderbolt ports are not full speed or lane. External gpus will give a significant performance boost, but won't take advantage of the full egpu potential.

Yes, both the ports run at PCIe X2 speed, not X4. Actually these ultrabooks are never made for gaming. The Thunderbolt ports are more for adding accessories like Thunderbolt docks for multiple Display Out, accessories, Storage etc.

Are there any student coupons that work with this?

I had the same for 718 but I returned it due to poor battery life. Still suggests that the 800 tag is a bit high for the next gen processor.

Sadly, nothing this time. If there is one, that will be shown as "Student Deal" in the product page as well.
