I make end grain cutting boards as a hobby. Sure you can buy a board of wood but it won't be end grain even if it is a hardwood.

What are you on about? Cut the end of a board off, rotate it 90 degrees and hot damn you have the end grain pointing up. All boards have face, edge, and end grain sides.

Yeah, and the glue up and subsequent planning and finishing take a bunch of time. I wouldn't sell one of mine for less than $100 so this deal isn't necessarily bad.

His point was that it's not as easy as just buying a board of wood from a lumber yard.

I agree that this is way more then I'd pay for a cutting board though
