explain Novation Launchpad to me (for playing around nonproduction use)

I'm not a producer, what can this be used for outside of mixing with the program, ie can you basically use it as a toy for the lights/drum sounds alongside standard streaming tracks or can it only be used within the program with downloaded audio files

It's a midi controller from my understanding. It's still a niche item, probably too niche for SD. My suggestion would be to go on youtube and watch what others are doing with it.

my main question is can you just use it alongside streaming audio or does is it only compatible with downloaded audio song files uploaded into the program?

I don't know that product or industry very well at all but my assumption would be it needs to be local. Any delay in the streaming side of things would mess up sequencing. I would bet any streaming music services like spotify don't have Midi support either.
