Best Small Office Laser MFCs - Brother vs. HP vs. Okidata

I've been a very loyal Brother MFC printer user for years, but the drums keep failing and I'm getting frustrated. I initially changed from HP to Brother because the toner is substantially cheaper, especially if I bought generic but I now need to replace drums monthly even after switching to genuine brother toner, and its becoming very costly.

We use these as Hotel printers (MFCL6700 as the AIO fax and HL6200) but we've now got 3 broken units because of drum related issues. When I started with Brother, you could just put tape over the drum, but now they've disabled that. I use to use the generics, which are dirt cheap, but now I'm using genuine and still having same issues. It's not just one printer, it's all of them for the most part.

Thinking of switching to another brand. How is HP? Do they have same drum issues? My IT guy swears by Okidata. How are those?

These hotels are all remotely located so I need reliability and I need to be cost-conscious.

Any suggestions?

How many pages are you printing a month that you go through drums that often? What happens to the drums?

Do you mean fuser perhaps?

Is it all the same brand of 3rd toner your using? I am wondering if thats part of the problem.

Oki isn't a major player in the USA as far as I am aware. I wouldn't be surprised if they are buying printer engines from someone else.

Varies, but for the typical hotel, we use the MFC about 5k copies a month. Each of the printers is maybe 4k per month. Nothing egregious.

I mean drum. Fuser was an issue for the most recent MFC which died completely last week (L6700). I was using generic toner from Amazon but we've gone to genuine Brother branded toner exclusively for the last year (costing a fortune).

How about Xerox MFCs? How do they fare?

Just bought a Canon All-in-one and found out their single cartridge system incorporates drum and toner into 1 unit.
