Amazon Dot 2nd gen = $50
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DFKC2SO

Thus 1 Arlo + station = $100

that's some flawed math right there... it's the same logic they use for the promo, Arlo with 1 camera = ~150$ MSRP [amazon.com], so the Echo is 0$.

Arlo with 1 camera has been on SD before for ~80$, Dot is routinely on SD for 30$ or less... so if you're willing to wait for SDs you could get both for ~110$.
percentage wise though, based on MSRP, this is 25% off MSRP... so you're basically getting the Arlo with 1 camera for 112.50$ and the dot for 37.50$.

Hi Psyctto,

NOT flawed at all to understand what the valuation of the parts are. You need to do that to understand the value when you compare this deal with the other deals.

Your additional information makes another good valuation and comparison possible.

using Echo dot value at = $30-50

Gives us a valuation of $100-120 for the remaining part of the kit... the Arlo

Arlo kits have had a significant price flux - from a 3 camera kits clearing out at Walmart for as low as $100 iirc, to Costco selling a 2 camera kit w/extras for $160

you used MSRP for the Dot and simply subtracted it from the MSRP of the kit... so, yeah, that's flawed and even with your additions, you're still just subtracting from the normal price of the Arlo (which is 150$)... that's a flawed way to look at it, by any stretch of the imagination.

Hi Psyctto,

Actually I used the price I could currently purchase the item from Amazon, and seeing that you have no issues using "$150" as a comparison price for the 1 camera arlo kit I see no reason why looking at it from the other way around is any more flawed. QED

The regular Arlo system is widely panned for various shortcomings, and Arlo Pro 1 & 2 were created to address some of those concerns. Now that Arlo Pro 2 is out, you should expect to see lots of retailers dumping these older standard models. So, it just depends on what you're looking for out of these cameras.

Hi Jakealtig,

As ctlalt133t points out a lot will depend on what you are looking for.

Having had an Arlo system, I think you can find better options for many of the cases you may be considering the Arlo for.

If you are looking for security cameras / security camera systems now is a great time to decide what is important in a system for you.

I've updated the wiki notes which I hope is useful for others also looking for security camera systems here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

If you are looking for wire free options - there's a lot of competition heating up in that space, and we'll see significant and rapid product updates and changes in the next couple of years. ( Arlo / Arlo Pro / Arlo Pro 2 is an example of that competition, with products quickly becoming out dated. )
