Have a Mac mini media server that doesn't seem to wake the display to my hdtv but I've heard these types of adapters solve that. Can I trust a $5 adapter?

I have this one and the answer is about 8 out of 10 times it'll wake for me.
My setup is PC > soundbar hdmi in > soundbar hdmi out > monitor (not tv)

I haven't put much time behind finding out where the occasional problem with waking the screen is but I do know the soundbar is always receiving sound even if the screen won't wake.
I still have some things to try (removing the sound bar and such) but I'm not frustrated enough try. Usually a remove/reinsert of the DP connector gets it back. Another thing I could try is unplugging the HDMI at the adaptor to see if that would also wake the screen.
I'd like to try deleting the soundbar to verify for you but it'll take a day of me at the system for me to find out.

I did some research and it's a pretty common issue. Doesn't sound like it's related to your av equipment but a glitch w the Mac.
