Initially excited .... yes it's a sleek piece of hardware and the prices are quite good, but these are 6th gen Intel processors (that's two generations old now). Further coloring the decision, there's 12 5-star reviews and 11 1-star reviews ... And if you look to Amazon, 24% of the 700+ reviews are 1-star. Eeek!

I got i7/8/256 from the last time it went on sale.

most, if not all, issues are resolved with windows update.
I do not have any issues with mine.

if i had to repeat this purchase... i'd probably go with surface pro though.
just easier for note taking with a pen.

Had mine for 2 years and it's the best laptop I've ever had (better than my previous MacBook Pro). I do hate the charger though, design is poor and had to change mine once already.

Note: This is Surface Book 1, not Surface Book 2.

If you are gonna spend this much for a Surface Book, might as well spend the extra cash and get the latest and greatest.

Yeah i hate to agree with you. If you're looking at Surface then price is prob not an issue. It is the only device that does Tablet/Laptop/Workstation work. Nothing else in this category.
The CPU upgrade to Quad-core with Coffee lake and the 1050/1060 GPU is such a huge upgrade you just can't in good conscience pick up an old one...

Yah most issues were related at launch back in 2015-2016. The product is a lot more stable now. I've used mine for a while and no issues at all other than annoying windows update sometimes.

Not sure why they made it like that but low power u series are called kabylake R as refresh but HQ and regular desktop cpu are coffee lake
