They already released it. But technically it's not called a stick. They just call it firetv.

Gives you 4K. But not much besides that. $70 retail on it as well.

Comes out on the 25th and is supposed to be the replacement to the box from what amazon says.

Replacement for fire Tv? Not really, more like v3 of fire stick, now with 4K and $70 price tag. No external usb, SD card slot.

This looks more like a Chromecast dongle than the fire tv box or the Roku's Streaming Stick+

They plan to keep selling the stick so I don't think it would be its replacement. It is also faster then the second gen fire tv which they are going to phase out because if you look at their site it is listed as the previous gen. Which would make this new fire tv the current or 3rd gen.

It's basically an in between fire stick (2nd gen) and fire tv (2nd gen).

So if you're considering buying entry level fire tv, get 2nd generation stick. Have 4K tv? then get the new version fire tv. Want something better get the fire tv (2nd gen).

It just looks in between but the specs are much better and so is the price. They even declare it as the replacement on Amazons site. Try to buy the 2nd gen it will tell you there is a newer version of this product and link you to this 3rd gen fire tv. The only real advantage to the previous one is the usb and sd inputs which I'm guessing they removed to make you further dependent on Amazon. I bet this thing will be capable of expandable storage just like the sticks are just not advertised by amazon.

Let's put it this way. Not many people have 4K TVs. USB and external storage is a huge plus for most. So if you have 2nd gen fire tv, new version isn't an upgrade.

No 4K tv. Fire stick 2nd gen vs new version. This post $25 vs $70? No contest. Pay $25.

The actual processing power and gpu are superior to the second gen fire tv so yes it is an upgrade and at a lesser price even if you don't have a 4k tv you would benefit from this. And again I'm sure these will have expandable storage just like the current sticks do just not something amazon will advertise (I have one coming tomorrow and plan to check that first thing). Also 4k is pretty common at this point seeing as you can get one for around 300 dollars for a 50 inch.
