I've played a lot of DiRT 3 and I freakin' love it. Word is, graphically this doesn't look that much better than DiRT 3 but this iteration of DiRT is way more realistic. They put great effort in the physics engine and car behavior.

Here's an example of a real rally driver playing the game:

"Professional rally driver and former Australian Junior National Rally Champion Will Orders driving the Bidno Moorland stage in DiRT Rally. What did he think of the game? He said the AWD cars felt spot on, especially the Fiesta WRC, but the RWD cars needed work. He hated the FWD cars, but he hates them in real life too."

Buy a racing wheel though. Basic game controllers don't do it justice. Also, recommend getting a decent sized 21:9 monitor - made a huge difference in immersion and viewing area over my 40" 4k 16:9 display, even at a much crappier 1080p resolution.

I didn't believe you about the graphics at first since they came out 5 years apart but you're right, Dirt 3 is a damn good looking game and very comparable. I still think Rally wins in overall lighting looking realistic, but they're pretty close on everything else.

Good stuff, used some slow shipping credits on this. It's compatible with Oculus too, so it'll be awesome to give that a try.

Just an FYI, if you are used to the arcade-like handling of previous DiRT games this will throw you for a loop. It is a whole new experience.

You have to be VERY careful with throttle input and traction, and the game is very unforgiving in crash damage. I found myself driving with far more care and intent than with previous DiRT games. Still is one of my absolute favorites, behind Colin McRae Rally 2005. That will always be the king for me, with the long rallies and career stages.

Dirt Rally is not like the other dirt games at all. You really need a good driving wheel and shifter for it. The learning curve is pretty high once you get to the more powerful cars. The first few slower cars are easy to drift around the track and get decent times but once you hit those high powered RWD only cars it gets really hard. It really makes you appreciate 4WD and modern suspension. The game is geared toward simulation and does not have an arcade mode. Very fun if you like sims but will be frustratingly hard for an arcade player. Watch a few YouTube videos on it and some of the ones showing you how to move the car around the track quickly. I wish I had a VR headset to play it with.

I have a t500rs wheel and th8rs shifter. Trying to decide if i should wait for ps4 digital sale instead since i have a ps4 pro and my pc gpu is a 4 year old gtx 670. This deal is super tempting but i just dont want to upgrade gpu yet. Hoping to go with f1 2017 and dirt4 as well on ps4 pro as long as my wheel works good there.
