For $70 dollars more this projector is much better than the recent 5030ube. Most notably 3 yr warranty with overnight replacement, Longer life due to laser core instead of lamp based core, electric lens shift and many more features see linked articles for review data. Plus if you use credit card for purchase you basically get a 4 yr warranty depending on your card features.

You are doing a disservice by omitting the fact that the 5030ube is nearly double the brightness. For those without a perfectly controlled theater room (darkness/reflections managed extremely well), the extra brightness of the 5030ube can be a real benefit.

a bright image is not the end all be all of quality. For anyone with a light controlled room, or willing to try an ambient light reflecting screen this would have been worth it. It seems sold out already to me, so I suppose it doesn't much matter now.

ratings review of the 5030UBE you will find several reviews speak about the fact that once calibrated the lumens output on this projector versus the 5030UBE this projector is slightly brighter. But yes in full on torch mode the 5030UBE has a much greater lumens output. The other part is if you are going to do home theater you are going to light control the room. Thanks for the discussion point

I thought about jumping on this, but the input lag was too high for gaming.

I absolutely adore this projector. First of all its a beast in size weighs around 45 pounds. I purchased the 5030UBE but it was missing parts and after some back and forth with Epson they agreed to let me return it. I was lucky I was able to get one of these because it appears Epson removed them from their site soon after I posted the deal on this site. Anyway the picture quality is far above the 5030UBE and the unit is whisper silent. The ability to do anamorphic display right out of the box is very impressive and the laser is rated for 30000 hours. I will take some pics and post them later but I am completely impressed. Total cost including tax was $1483 which doesn't include the 2% back from urlhasbeenblocked and the 5% back from my credit card. I love Epson Smilie
