Been looking for a set of security cameras for the home. Been using the AMcrest standalone for testing and its great for PTZ, but their customer support sucks and I'm better off dealing with a whole set.

Saw this deal, just not sure if I should get with coax or pony up the extra $$ for ethernet...

Hi Ethans_tank,

If you're pulling in new wires I would recommend going cat6/cat5e and going with a PoE system.

This is a good deal, just will be a lot of wiring for 16 cameras which are decent. Thus if you already have coax wiring and perhaps a poor preforming cctv system and cameras this would be a decent replacement. Or, perhaps for a place which you have a very tight budget and it is super easy to wire.

Quick check on some Chinese sellers of CCTV cameras, looks like 1080p HDCVI cameras are going for $29-33.50

16x $29 = $464

Still need a 2TB HDD ( $60 est ) + 16 channel HDCIV NVR ( ? $ ) => subtotal $524 + NVR

So for $500 this kit is a good deal.

With 16 cameras, do you guys have suggestions where to put all of them? I can think of:

-Front door
-Backyard door
-Garage door
-Garage side door
-Living room
-Family room
-Dining room
-Kitchen
-Side yard
-Pool
-Backyard
