Wish I had gone GSync/nVidia instead of Freesync for my monitor. Now I'm locked into AMD and their crappy Vega 64 liquid, which costs more, is hotter, uses more power, and performs worse than 1080ti.

Does the savings on a Freesync vs Gsync monitor make it about even?

Yesterday's 1080ti deal was $599 (plus $50 tax for CA) after $100 gift card...

It was 699 with $100 newer gift card. So not exactly 599. Plus tax for those in .CA. I would be purchased but missed the deal. They didn't run out of 1080 ti card. They just ran out of the deal.

Strange thing about Freesync/Gsync is that you don't need to use it to benefit from a 144hz panel...

IDK why so many of you don't understand this. You can run a 1080ti on a freesync monitor and take full advantage of the 144hz... You just can't enable freesync... Same thing applies to Gsync with AMD.

I run a 1080ti on a ROG PG279Q and I have Gsync turned OFF (it's a less shitty version of v-sync, but it is still noticeable).

If you can't push a game over 60fps consistently you will benefit from Freesync/Gsync... If you can push over 60, you shouldn't be using them...

IMO i would wait for the new Nvidia Volta cards. Its being speculated that they will be A LOT more powerfull than current GTX 1000 series. Possibly a bigger jump in performance than the jump from 900 series to current 1000 series.

Looks like a possible early 2018 release.

No. They will announce them in Q1/2 and start selling them in Q3/Q4. They will also be impossible to get once they drop because crypto miners will buy them all in bulk and everyone else who wants to make a quick buck will flip them on amazon for $100+ profit.

Also, Nvidia need to sell off more GP104 equipped models before they roll out Volta. The 1070 will die off (1070 ti is eating up the low yield bin 1080 gp104's)

If you are running a 1070 or lower you might want to sell it and buy a cheap 1080ti before the bottom falls out. At least the resale of the 1080ti will stay high for the next year (even when Volta releases).

So why the hell don't Nvidia and AMD up shipments significantly to counter this ridiculous demand for mining cards?

they don't want extra cards sitting around once mining hype is over is what everyone is saying or they can't make HBM2 and GDDR5X memory fast enough ram shortage all kinds of excuses.
