Solicitation to spam SD for money

5,098 968 October 27, 2017 at 09:01 PM
I got two emails from [redacted] offering me money to spam SlickDeals.

They were caught in my spam folder, and I just found them (dated 10/19 & 10/24).

I presume some feature of SlickDeals was utilized to contact (email) me, so I wanted to alert SD staff to this.

If SD staff want the full headers and bodies, please let me know, and I'll send them along.

hi, thanks for the report!

as you guessed, posting for merchants violates the TOS and is a good way to get banned. we do not condone this and as a team work hard to find the offending merchants and posters, but we depend on the community's help too.

emails can be forwarded to info@slickdeals.net
if you happen to receive a pm like this, please mod alert it so one of the mods on duty can address it.

the more info you can provide the better, as merchants can be penalized with sufficient info.

Thanks

Forwarded my emails as well - the latest that came today

But seriously, guys, let's be realistic - I've already mentioned this in numerous topics

Almost ALL of these shill deals follow the very SAME pattern:

1) Nobody ever heard of the brand, some junk from China
2) Sold through Amazon
3) Most important and giving it out right away - some REFERRAL coupon code that is almost always 8 random characters like CXF672OYor PQ098LLP

If I were you and if I really wanted to fight this, I would just impose a temporary restriction on posting any deals for products sold through Amazon with a coupon code. Amazon lightning deals and other legitimate Amazon deals almost never have any coupon codes, so that would not impact those, but it will help cutting a lot of cr*p from our beloved website Smilie

Side note since this thread is taking a bit of a turn...

Not all n00b merchants are bad. Everyone has to start somewhere.
We obviously do NOT want those who solicit our members to post for them.
We don't allow that here at all.

But we also don't want to punish good merchants who happen to be just starting out.

If you get solicited via PM, email or any other way please send that info to us.
The more details we have about the merchant the more likely was can take action to keep them off this site.

Thanks guys. I replied.

I try not to give away too much in the public forum since I don't want more shilly merchants to use the tactic (although all of them prob. know it anyway) nor do I want to give any members who might want to do the site harm an idea of how to get contacted.

I just received a facebook message asking me to Spam Slickdeals for an Amazon seller... marked and reported on Facebook as Spam. I would provide the name of the person, however didn't get it before I hit the Spam and report button, now it is gone. Just a heads up.
