The other night we had a trespasser and I managed to get a plate. I've recently been harassed by someone due to a negative business review I posted and I suspect it's related. A Carfax or Autocheck should at least tell me where the car was last registered and possibly where it was purchased. Anyone willing and able to run the plate for me?
I think the vin # might tell you that. I don't believe the license plate would tell you anything unless you had a friend that was a cop and was willing to stick his neck out. I don't think they are allowed to use databases for stuff like that.

Carfax/Autocheck can be run by plate as well these days. It won't tell you the registered owner and such, but it'll give you the city/state and usually which dealer the vehicle was purchased from. I actually have a VIN now also as one of the free plate search sites returns the VIN when you enter the plate.

I wasn't aware of that. I wonder why this information would be useful in normal circumstances?

Can you PM please? I thought I searched pretty thoroughly last month and was unable to find a working link. Been using .vehiclehistory.com/, but it's certainly not Carfax or AutoCheck
