These are supposed to be good for monitors (close viewing) because they use IPS panels.

Its sad that Vizio has dropped built in Tuners. I use OTA along with streaming and means I would need to buy a tuner along with a TV.

I'd be more tempted if a bunch of sales on TVs weren't going to happen in a month. If it were new, I'd bite.
It's a solid tv with a 120hz refresh rate, absolutely necessary for sports. Here's a review, and note that the 55" has an IPS display, which is different from their other sizes for this model.

I'm not sure "close viewing" and "55" TV" should be in the same sentence.

To the best of my understanding, Vizio model numbers decode like this:

P 55 - E 1

P: Series, where D=value, E=Entry, M=Mid range, P=Performance/Premium

55: Size

E: generation, where D=2016, E=2017

1: (not sure what this means)

Is it really that good of a deal? What would be the difference with a 2016 model? None recognizable differences, right?

The only difference I've seen from reviews is that the 2016 had some android tablet for a remote, whereas the 2017 has a normal remote.
