You definitely want to toss that 1A charger in the trash. It's embarrassing that Apple even ships that anymore.

Here's a decent article I saw comparing different charging rates and chargers:

Based on the numbers in that article, 29w charging is only marginally faster than what you can get with any 2.4A USB charger and Lightning cable. I personally wouldn't bother with USB-C charging an iPhone unless you also had other devices that used it.
