Xfinity mobile (Comcast)

Just checking out my options - Xfinity (Comcast) has a mobile business where, if you're a HSI/cable customer, you get free access for up to 5 phones, but have to pay for data - $12/gb OR $45/line for unlimited.

We have 4 phones (us and the IL's) and pay about $160/mo for (I think) 15GB shared data - and that's with a FAN account that gets me 20% off the main line. That includes taxes and whatnot.

Wondering what the "catch" is here. We don't get anywhere near our collective 15gb/mo - I have a work cell phone as well, and the MIL mostly eats up data playing candy crush and stupid FB crap.

I assume porting is possible, and the per/GB is monthly, meaning you don't have to select a GB level, it just auto charges. I am wondering what international service is like (what is the "mother" network)?

Yeah the govt needs to get their piece just like ooma. I absolutely need data though... $12/gb is pretty expensive.... maxing it out every month would be $180 plus tax, more than what I pay now, but the upside is big.

Are the phones gsm or.... ? We all have micro or nano sim gsm phone on att.... would need to bring those phones over. Did you port numbers? What is internatioinal service like?

You need to look at what the typical data usage is per line so you can see what the final costs would be like.

It's verizon so chances are you might need at least some new phones. Need to post the exact phones you have so we can advise you.

The catch is mainly that you're allowing Comcast access to yet another market.

did some googling and someone said if your IMEI is eligible for pageplus, then you're good. so I entered my cell IMEI there and got a result that I could register the phone (the thought being that pageplus is also verizon MVNO) - comcast will tell you that you have to purchase phones from them but what they really mean is that they won't SUPPORT phones not purchased from them, not that they won' work. We have: (2) SG8+ (nanosim), 1 SG5, 1 SG4 active, all AT&T.

I've tried to look at data usage but from a cell it's not that friendly. At $45/mo, if you can buy it per-line, for our highest use line it appears that buying that makes sense if you use >4 GB/mo (4x$12/gb=$48>$45 for unlimited). that said I could also put a lower cap on that phone (that's the MIL's phone) to reduce it to 3GB; the remainder of our usage is about 3GB so 6GB data +taxes would be like $80/mo or so - about half of what we pay now.

My biggest question is international - does Verizon MVNO act just like Verizon when abroad?

No. each mvno is different.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?
Have you ever stopped to think the long-term GOP immigration policy might be to make the United States of America a less desirable place to live than Mexico?
