An AmEx promotion through beVancouver.com provides up to $125 rebate (in the form of an AmEx gift card) for one night at selected Vancouver hotels and an additional $50 for each additional night. Note that you can book with Visa, M/C, or AmEx, but your rebate is in AmEx gift cards. Note all prices are CAD (Canadian dollars; 1 CAD = 0.78 USD).

I used this myself twice last year and found it very easy - the gift cards were waiting for me at check-in. I just did a sample search for Nov. 15 for one night; prices varied dramatically, of course, but some good deals I spotted:
  • The Burrard 3-star - $109 CAD with $75 CAD rebate for first night
  • The Sylvia 3-star - $125 CAD with $75 CAD rebate for first night (I stayed here last year and recommend; great location, on the water, service excellent)
  • Ramada 3.5-star - $115 CAD with $75 CAD rebate for first night
  • Wedgewood 4.5-star - $228 CAD with $125 CAD rebate for first night

Amazing deal for mattress runs, but Vancouver (and the rest of the Pacific Northwest) is downright depressing this of the year with the constant non-stop rain and overcast skies at best.

This does beg the question: Does beVancouver count as an OTA? When I went to Whistler I noticed the Whistler town tourism office's hotel booking service is an OTA, not sure how this affects status holders...

Got it. On line travel agency. But what status holders are you talking about?

Frequent customers of hotels earn status like frequent flyers on airlines. Gives some extra benefits and upgrades if available when booked legit (or though corporate travel) but not when using an OTA (literally the scum of the industry, like if you showed up to a nice restaurant with a Groupon)
