Besides price, why go with this instead of the echo show?

I own two of this - one with my parents in Taiwan and one with me. Very simple to operate. I bought one @ $79 and one @ $135, so this is definitely a good deal.

The Ring integration is a big plus. It's funny that such simple thing cannot be accomplished on the Wink Relay.

Is a Smartthings hub necessary? Or it just connects to Alexa?

Anyone know if you can get this to work with a Hikvision camera at the front door and SmartThings link to the doorbell?

This seems desirable but I can't really think of a reason it's better than something like facetime when people i would want to connect with use iPhones/iPads. Thoughts? A solution waiting for a problem?

I think Echo Spot is a better product.

It bits competition because it has:
- poe
- nicer form factor - can be put on the wall and e.g. not take valuable kitchen counter-top space.
- best use require at least 2 units, which are still cheaper then one unit from any competition.
- physical camera privacy cover/shutter
- "call all" broadcast function - like proper intercom
- ability to receive video call from any cellphone with their app.

Cons:
- per company manual - it should not be microwaved - I am not kidding, they have this in writing.

Don't think so that integration with SmartThings goes beyond Alexa.
Potential exist (as they are small company) that they could become an on the wall interface for ST, which would be awesome and blew Amazon Show out of water. I think / hope that there is some development in this area already - as ST already lists them as part of integrated devices - and they don't do that for all things that could somehow be connected.

So I got my five devices - and hook them up to POE which I had installed some time ago.
My first impressions:
- spoken voice quality - A
- Alexa voice recognition - B
- Alexa sound outcome e.g. music - C -- too thin for my taste
- Video quality - B- --- could be a bit more sharp / less grainy, but it is smooth
- Functionality B+ --- would love few improvements but it does what is promised.

For $80 -- it is a bargain - would I pay $250 (their original price) --- not a chance
