I think most or all 4K players also upscale regular blu-rays to 4K resolution.

To play 4k blu rays?

It does have a Digital Optical Audio out to connect to an older receiver.

Samsung definitely does not, and has introduced the HDR10+ format to compete with Dolby Vision. Since I have a Samsung KS8000 TV, I currently also do not care about Dolby Vision.

For $109 for this player, seems like an inexpensive way to get started with 4K UHD blu-rays. However, I'm worried that their bottom-of-the-line player (or ANY of the 2017 M models) may not be able to firmware-upgrade to HDR10+ the way I've read that my KS8000 should be able to do. That's assuming that Samsung can even get anybody to produce HDR10+ content, as it seems most of the big movie studios are Dolby customers anyway. Another format war, where I'm thinking Dolby Vision will be the VHS and HDR10+ will end up being the BetaMax...

The K8500, last years model, does in fact support 3D. The 2017 models (M7500/M8500/M9500) do not support 3D.

The built-in apps on this model (and the rest of the M series) are 4K HDR where that is available from the app vendor - typically just Netflix and Amazon at this point, although I believe Vudu is working on that as we speak.

This... seems like a pretty good deal. I've been hoping to treat myself to a 4k player over black friday, but I can't imagine better deals than this?

Only issue is I'm having trouble finding any legitimate reviews for it.

This is not a 4K Blu-Ray disc player. It will upscale regular Blu-Rays to simulated 4K quality.
Think you're wrong. This looks like an actual 4K UHD player. Must be new as I'm finding zero reviews on it.

I'm pretty sure this is the same as the M8500 [amazon.com] without wi-fi.

When I Google the model number. All of the listings state that it upscales to Blu-Ray. So they are all incorrect?

Yeah, I wonder if this is an error because I have never seen a 7 series. Why would it go backwards all of a sudden?

No WiFi - probably why it's so cheap. Not sure about the quality of the player otherwise. It is a 4K player.
