The are BNC cameras, so they are analog, no? I wouldn't be able to use a BNC to POE adapter?

Yes, Analog cameras and system which uses coax cable.

If you really want they have something called a Balun which allows you to use ethernet cable with a analog BNC system.

PoE standards would not apply with this kit - thus the cameras will not work in a PoE system.

While I don't need anything fancy (front door, back door, driveway & basement door). It sounds like this is kinda obsolete, though a good price. I can't decide if I should spend the significant extra money for a digital system. Though with the ethernet adapters, I wouldn't have to waste time pulling coax.

Hi ZippoChicken,

Questions:
If someone breaks into your car on your driveway at night would you want to press charges?
If someone steals a package delivered to you on your porch, would you want to press charges?

Thanks

I would, though I'm not sure what your point is?

Hi ZippoChicken,

A lot of people, including myself, have serious distorted impressions of what security cameras are capable of due to Hollywood misrepresentation of cameras. Even when I knew they clearly were distorted I never imagined just how distorted they were.

So, the point - if you want to potentially press charges you will need to be able to get a good ID image. Thus the following data on ID distance will be critical to deciding what your camera needs are ( see below ).

How far is your car parked from where you plan to place the camera? 10 feet? 20 feet? on the street X feet away?

At this time also it seems you can optimize your selection of cameras to get better and higher resolution daytime images or night time images.

For daytime images -. 4K / 8PM cameras
For night time images -> a product from Dahua called Starlight Cameras w/2MP resolution

I've got a lot of info in the link below that I have been gathering together to share with others here as I learn more about security cameras.

For reference the cameras in this kit are analog equivalent of "1080p" and 105 degrees FOV, assuming H FOV - thus about 10-11 feet for theoretical ID distance. Remember this is the max, just get less in real life.. see below

ID spec distance and associated area max covered calculations ( 100ppf+ ):

This is the theoretical max based on raw pixels from the horizontal resolution and the horizontal FOV. Calculations based on data provided in ads / spec sheets. Some vendors like to play games and list diagonal FOV instead of horizontal FOV as that number is bigger and not clarify that it is diagonal FOV.
Actual real world results will be decreased due to the quality of the camera ( glass vs plastic lens, compression quality, sw/firmware,... ), installation view, as well as environmental conditions ( low light, haze, fog, glare off snow, water rain,.. ).

Practical meaning: Place your cameras in such a manner that any suspect / subject you wish to potentially ID is within this ID spec distance, as well as in a placement which will give you a high likelihood of obtaining a good facial image ( mount camera 8 feet or less high ).
