For the Makita cordless, brushless, 18Vx2 plunge/track saw kit, it looks like CPO is currently running a similar deal to Home Depot, but $10 cheaper, and no tax for some.

Includes the saw, (4) 5.0Ah batteries with battery gauge, 55" guide rail, charger, and (2) systainer style cases.

Here in New York, the tax for this kit at Home Depot is over $40.

I don't see where it mentions the rail is included.

If you were buying your first track saw (been waiting for a deal), would you go corded over cordless?

I'd go cordless. The ability to break down 4x8 sheets at the big box store is a big plus. You get 4 batteries. You can charge two while using two. Runtime is not an issue.

Look into eurekazone (ezsmart) products. Specifically the UEG and EZ-one

Acme tools has been running these free battery/track deals since Makita announced the promos about a month and a half ago, no tax there either for most folks.

I'm thinking the rear handled 7 1/4" saw kit myself.

Looks like this would convert a circ saw into a track saw, effectively? Then the EZ is the track system to go along with that?

Definitely less expensive. Do you know if it can still properly handle plunge cuts?

Plunge would depend on the CS you use. If you're interested, visit tracksawforum.com to read up on all the nuances and pros and cons.

Basically, Festool saw is better than using some random CS, but festool's MFT is a severely limited toy compared to the ez-one. And no one makes anything like the UEG.

EZ tracks are also cheaper than Makita and Festool tracks

I don't see the guide rail offer anymore. When I click on the battery offer there is no mention of the free guide rail.

Very clunky and cumbersome and impossible to plunge effectively for maybe a $150 savings in all over a complete 4-battery cordless kit. Pro tip: Use the right tool for the job, or you're just a slob.
