Wow this seems like a steal. I got no idea if waiting for black friday is worth it. Or if waiting for 8th gen cpu with 6 cores is worth it.

Am I autistic or is this a really good deal?
It's a pretty damn good deal. 6th gen i7 is only downside but those still are very competitive and cheapest 1070 in a laptop I've found so far. I've been looking at desktops with similar specs and am still landing around $1k .

Does anyone know how useful the "1 Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port" is? The actual addon looks pricey ($180) but if it really lets you run any gpu you want to upgrade to, that seems pretty awesome. Not that I'd need to replace a 1070 anytime soon

Even with holiday sales you'll be paying considerably more than this for an 8th gen configuration.

Overclocked 1070... What... Is this just the new marketing for non max q chips?

Fwiw I have this wire the over clocked i7 and everything else the same and love it. I hook up to an amplifier with a 1080 and it plays everything great. It's a little big and heavy but I still use it on my lap on the couch for surfing.

my presidents day sale almost getting beat, still going to be some time to really get smoked... I've been waiting to see how long it takes for my same pc to costs less....

got the same but with 256gb nvme ssd and 120hz TN GSYNC for $1257 OTD

then again you are getting an OC 1070 here whatever that means or if marketing crap and some prefer the IPS technology regardless of 120hz gains, I just play fps so need the 120hz refresh rate for awesome smoothness which cannot be matched by 60hz.

$1257 OTD after e Bates, and 100 discount from dell after purchase!! Subtotal: $2,249.99 Order Level Promotion: -$875.55 Shipping & Handling: $15.00 Shipping Discount Applied: -$15.00 Environmental Disposal Fee: $6.00 Sales Tax: $113.90 Total Amount: $1,494.34

Alienware 15 R3 6th Generation Intel® Coreâ"¢ i7-6700HQ NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 120Hz TN+WVA Anti-Glare 400-nits NVIDIA G-SYNC Enabled 16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (2x8GB) 256GB PCIe SSD Nvme (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage) Killer 1435 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 Lithium Ion (99 Wh) Battery

Like you said, the Amp box itself is kind Of Expensive. I've got a 17 R3 with the Amp port but have never used it myself.

This is a great deal. I have a slightly higher config (7820hk, 512gb ssd, QHD, 1080 GTX) and the build quality is great. A 1070 @ 1080P will run whatever games you want for the next 10 years. For real.

Edit: That config above was $1450 through the outlet after that big 24% TCB deal a while back. I'm not sure that deal can ever be replicated, though.

Does it make sense to get this if using for Photoshop/movie editing? I don't play video games.

The 1070 would be overkill unless you're also doing 3d rendering.

How future proof would this laptop be considering the overall specs?

No, not really. If you have this kind of money to spend, then I'd look for something that has 32GB of memory instead of a really nice dedicated graphics card. You'll need the spare memory for editing large files.
