Right this very second, I'm having car work done at Jiffy Lube, and I just bought a few gift cards from ABC Gift Cards to pay for it. (The work is more than an oil change, and will run several hundred dollars.) The gift card I bought was supposed to be around $450, but actually has $180. I paid $360 for it.
Should I use the incomplete $180 balance to pay for my work now?
* Will using the balance invalidate my refund claim? ABC won't be able to verify the incomplete balance of the card. I have already filed a refund request and attached a screenshot of the balance. They probably won't reply today.
* If I don't spend the balance, can I just get a complete refund and give up the card? Or must I keep the card, and ABC will they only refund the difference (possibly pro-rated by the discount percentage: they could adjust my cost as if I had bought a $180 card at X% discount).
I go to Jiffy Lube sometimes, but I'm not thrilled about holding on to a $180 card until I spent it on my next several oil changes. (Especially if this card is actively being used by the original owner!)
