Time Warner Spectrum Internet after first year

I am currently paying $39.99/month for the Internet service from Spectrum (SoCal). My first 12 months are about to be over, and the new monthly rate is going to be $54.99. What deals are people able to get after the first year through the retention department just for the Internet? If I can't get the same rate from Spectrum, is there an option to cancel the service and sign up again at the same address under my wife's name (same last name)?

these f***ers are the worst, i swear, the best you can do with them is $44.99 for 100 mbps, and here is what they are going to tell you if you call them. " Oh we can offer you $64.99 for 100 MBPS" if you call in to cancel they will be "okay your service is cancelled" like no other offers. Even though they advertise that $44.99 rate on their website but when you speak to someone they will give you run around, thats for new customers and bunch of blah blah.

Here is what you can do.

Flip the modem you have on ebay, and go on timewarnercable.com and order internet service as new customer.

Thats one option in order to avoid headache.
option 2, call them and say Verizon reached out to you with an offer of 60 Mbps/ 5MB upload for $29.99 ( fake it) and ask them what they can do to keep you with spectrum, see what they offer, if the guy offers $44.99 in first shot, great ask him, if he can do better, if he says no, tell him to consult with his manager to see what they can offer to keep you. if he offers anything better than $44.99 please let us know. if the retention rep gives you that $64.99 for 100 mbps hang up and call again. i have had tough luck with this company but they are the only one who provide high speed internet in my area

What monopoly does especailly in a geogrpahical area? Corporate america is a joke and we and myself included are no longer just pissed at this but also concerns me, as everything we consume will eventually become that until we no longer have anything else as out ability to buy has been completely dimished.

I was paying like 34.99 a year ago. Now it's 44.99 for 60mbps (from TWC). I'm thinking about calling tomorrow. Will let you know if I can get below 44.99

I was able to get 100mbs/$44.99 as a current customer. Coming from 20mbs for $39.99 it wasn't a tough decision.

I live in SoCal here and Spectrum is AWFUL..at least with Time Warner Cable you could haggle with these people..with Spectrum forget about it..and supposedly there is NO retention department anymore. This is what we used to have with TWC, for 168(Til they become Spectrum) we had 4 cable boxes(Including 1 DVR box), internet(200 mbps), and phone service..after July the bill started increasing sky high, first it was 188, now its 205 for the SAME SERVICE(we have 100 mbps since they become Spectrum), and next month it is going to go UP again by 3 dollars and change(on our bill it shows 1 dollar more for each box, 1 dollar more for the DVR service, and some state taxes..I have called Spectrum numerous times asking for promotions, they have NONE..they say "You have the best deal available" I laugh at them, I see that spectrum commercial and I change the channel disgusted! We would leave but honestly even with Directv you add in spectrum internet and phone and we end up paying something similar..internet for us is 59.99 and that includes their pathetic box they give us that includes wifi
Oh almost forgot..we have the silver TV package that includes Showtime, Cinemax, HBO..we asked if they can remove those channels since really we hardly watch them and they said yeah 8 bucks cheaper..LOL not worth getting rid of it for 8 freakin bucks

44.99..that is a good price considering we have been with TWC(formally adelphia) for over 20 years and they refuse to budge on the price..we pay 59.99..is it best to just call billing and ask to speak to someone higher up?

It helps when they have competition but yes I just called and told them I might switch unless they could offer me the new customer price. I did just switch from the Time Warner service over to the new Spectrum service so I don't know if that did it or not.

I canceled and created a new account . One of their reps said I couldn't do that and said I had to wait 30 days. I laughed and said "watch me". I used to be an installer during my college years and cancelling and reactivating is and was very very common to get the promo price. On a side note, since one of the tracking methods for accounts is based on your phone number . Just use a google voice number when creating a new account.

Will try that since right now we pay 59.99 for the same thing..so how did you do it..did you talk to billing or did you talk to internet service? Spectrum is AWFUL I mean AWFUL..but around here in SoCal its either AT&T internet which is garbage or Spectrum internet..and with Spectrum internet everything you download you have to be on pins and needles even when I would download things for school I would get emails from spectrum saying its something illegal and I would have to get it straightened out..

how soon after cancelling were you able to get service again?

and if I have my own modem, how do I ensure that it gets removed from the system to have it ready for the new account?

can you also detail the steps out a bit more? and I'm assuming all of this is done online/over the phone?

sorry to ask for so much, I'm a newbie when it comes to this cancelling and reordering business.

(SoCal as well) After my promo expired, I've been paying $60 for the past xx months. Just been too lazy to keep switching back and forth from Cable to ATT&T. Well I just got a notice that my bill was now going to be $64.99 so I called Spectrum just now 1-800-892-4357. Prompt asked what I was calling about and I told them "cancel service".

Spoke to retentions department and basically said before I switched over to AT&T, I wanted to see if they had any promo's available. He asked what promo they offered ($40/month for 50mbps service with 1 year contract and 1tb download cap). He did some "research" and offered me 100mbps unlimited data for $45. I never switched over to AT&T because I feared the data cap but turns out I only use about 150gb a month (if you're a current Spectrum customer you can login and see your history under "MY INTERNET" > "VIEW USAGE DETAILS")

I"m planning on calling soon so how hard was it to get this deal? How did you know it the retention department? I thought Spectrum didn't have one? $44.99 a month for 100mbps is new customer pricing so you had twc legacy before? That's the deal I want to get.

Honestly, I never had any luck in the past years which is why I kept switching from cable to DSL. This time was easy though. When someone got on the phone I asked to speak with the retentions department. He said I was speaking to them. Yea I had time warner and they switched over to spectrum. Good luck. Helps to actually check to see AT&Ts rate around your area. When I mentioned I was switching over, he asked how much they were offering it for and at what speed. His unlimited data usage was also a "selling" point so if you use a lot of data maybe it wont fly?
