I bought the Pioneer VSX532 ($119) and Polk Audio RM705 ($119) 5.1 channel home theater system for a total of $238. Is the Onkyo system package better than the set up I got from Newegg?

Passive sub with no amp. Just be aware you can't upgrade the sub as the receiver also lacks an RCA output for a normal powered sub.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was hoping to swap the sub with one I currently have with my soundbar.

TU for the deal, but unfortunately the lack of output for a powered sub is a deal-breaker for me Frown

Onkyo systems are just awesome. I prefer them over other high price systems for the sound quality from Onkyo is amazing.

Just bought this same model 3 days ago on AMZ at $269. Called about getting the price difference, as $70 is a lot. They could not refund that amount so I have to return the 1st item, and reorder a new one at the lower cost...seems absurd but I guess it's their price policy. The AMZ rep was super helpful and actually discounted it further for my troubles.

Thank OP for helping me save $70! Rep'd

It's better than old discontinued Logitech with Dolby?

Any suggestions if this is a decent successor to my aging Logitech z5500 system?

Wow, was going to bite on this system, but no Subwoofer Out? Are you serious Onkyo? Pass, because a passive sub just isn't going to cut it for anything but a small room.

A similar thing happened to me. what i did is ordered another one of the item, processed a return for the first one i bought at the higher price, and then just returned the second one they sent me without ever even opening the box. easy peasy, free money.

Yup, that's my plan, as I have the 1st purchase all setup, box is in trash.

Looks like a good setup for my dad. It's a step up from his old RCA HTIB system and way better than a soundbar. Plus it's Onkyo- even their cheap stuff is built to last.

i'm wondering about this, too. i have the polk speaker set sitting in the closet, but i missed out on the pioneer receiver, so waiting for another receiver deal to pop up. now this onkyo set shows up so i'm weighing my options. but it's so close to BF that i may as well just wait a few more weeks for other deals...
