The general rule for new wiring installations is to install cat6 cable and not coax. If you already have coax, then do consider a decent coax system as the wiring job itself can be significant.

Thus If you are installing new wires and can afford to, I would recommend getting a PoE system.

Recommend using bulk cable so that you can return any kit you purchase while under the warranty period. Using bulk cable will also make it easier to pull the cable lines and allow you to drill smaller holes. The amount of time installing either cable should not be significantly different for small scale projects.
When using bulk cable you will need to purchase the tools to allow you to crimp connectors to the ends as well as termination at jacks / patch cables.

Have you seen a decent deal on PoE systems for BF? Looking for a 5+ camera system. I love the idea of the other mentioned security system on the ad you posted (Arlo Pro) but IDK if I can bring myself to spending $800 on cameras just for the convenience.

Hi Phdeez,

I'm keeping an eye out for what deals show up. Also, with the Arlo Pro system I would avoid it if you need a reliable security camera system, it fails in 2 minimal viable security camera categories ( you can read more in the link below )

In the mean while check out the wiki notes in the Lorex 4K deal and take some time planning so you have a better idea of what you want and need.

Thanks for the feedback! I did notice this system also at Costco for BF... what are your thoughts on it? I'd assume no-go since you didn't post it?

Hi Phdeez,

Please check out the master list here for various links, it looks like that kit from Costco will be on sale for Black Friday season.

Hi GibsonBass,

PoE kits will be more than $200 for a 6 camera system, also look for NVR instead of DVR in description.
( additional terms to watch for which indicate non-PoE: coax, BNC, analog, DVR, "sPOE" )
