FYI - Please see the discussion below.

We're still looking for specs on the system, and currently the NVR specs we have found indicate this NVR model is capable of only recording 4MP streams. Hopefully what is actually in this kit is an updated NVR which can handel 4K / 8MP video streams from the camera.

The Q-SEE web page list the 878 - xx system as having 4k resolution , i think the system has different dash numbers but uses the same nvr

FYI - Master List of Black Friday Security Camera deals:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10731663-security-camera-security-camera-system-black-friday-2017-master-list

Recommend using bulk cable so that you can return any kit you purchase while under the warranty period. Using bulk cable will also make it easier to pull the cable lines and allow you to drill smaller holes. The amount of time installing either cable should not be significantly different for small scale projects.
When using bulk cable you will need to purchase the tools to allow you to crimp connectors to the ends as well as termination at jacks / patch cables.

Hi Dezwaan,

4MP cameras on that Amazon link, the ones on Black Friday BJs deal are 4K / 8MP

I did not look closer at the NVR - the model number seems the same, however BJs page did not really give as much information as the Costco pages ( which typically include pdf spec sheets )

Note: A quick look on the Dahua and Hikvision sites and I was unable to find a 4K camera from them which had the same form factor. Thus I am uncertain of the OEM for the cameras. I would think they would be good quality cameras.

I think they've made a mistake, I've looked all over and the NVR that comes with this QT878 is only a 4mp NVR not 4k. I think there are going to be a lot of angry/upset people. I might be one of them.

Hi Justtobeme2,

Hope not, that's a big mistake.

I also was not able to find any information that the NVR could handle a 4K camera, so I'm a bit disappointed by the BJ's website not providing enough specs or links to spec sheets.

Note: If it turns out to be the case ( 4MP instead of 4K ) then definitely look at the Lorex 4K 6 camera kit at Costco, Costco has a deal on membership right now - so you can save with that - OR - some of our friends reading SDs have that kit onsale at ebay, some of them only charging a small mark up :-)

Updated:
From the Bj's page - they do clearly state that this is a 4K UHD kit.
Note the item is not available in the club, only online:

Q-See 8-Channel 4-Camera 4K UHD Security System with 2TB HDD NVR
Item: 113600 | Model: QT878-4EZ-2

http://www.bjs.com/q-see-8-channe...0001004090

Hope Depo also lists it as a 4K set under at model number ( see earlier post ).

Here are the spec sheets from the Home Depot site:
https://www.homedepot.com/catalog...1a933c.pdf

Which indicate that the NVR QT878 recording resolution is: 4MP / 3MP / 1080p / 720p

So, something is funny here.. perhaps the spec sheet is incorrect? Maybe this is a newer version of the NVR?

There is a new review for the Home Depot site camera set.
Since this has the exact model number and the review clearly states "This title is in error. The NVR is ONLY 4mp not 4k as advertised. Don't believe me call Q-see yourself like I just did. The cameras are 8mp but you won't see the video in 8mp because the NVR is ONLY 4 mp. False advertising and way over priced" at $1499.
So can anyone confirm this?
Has anyone bought the BJ's one early and did the price protection?

Hi Boadie,

Those are good questions, still waiting to hear more info on this one. Hopefully we will get more information on this one.

Normally I try different sources to check information, and this one has been very hard to determine.

Recommendation in case there still is no information when we hit BF is to know BJs return policy well and have alternatives lined up.

Currently the best known option in the 4K IP PoE space is still the Costco 4K Lorex deal, and I would argue it is still better than even the lower resolution kits that I have seen so far due to the increased ID distance those cameras have compared to other cameras. imho the only reason to get a cheaper kit is that you really do not have the funds and your threats / risks you need to counter are significant.

Thanks,but when I go to Costco I can't even pull up a 4K Lorex under $1999.

after calling Q-SEE tech support today , they affirmed this was a 4k system for both viewing and recording, but i see reviews that prefer other vendors ...and their app has terrible reviews so i am thinking about bailing on this system ,,,cheaper is not always better .
