I bought the 550w not too long ago for the same price. (I haven't opened it or used it) How painless are neweggs returns (with this type of item)? Wondering if I even need more than 550w tho

Probably not. What hardware do you want to run with it?

I'm debating between a 1600 or 8700k paired with a 1070 or a 1080

Not trying to be a jerk.... But I think power supplies of this size having the gold rating is silly. Yeah. Yeah. Even the little guys want to be efficient. But efficiency should only be a big deal 800-1000W+ area. You're paying a premium for a rating that doesn't mean a whole lot at this power level.

I got the Amazon sale yesterday for $40 after 2x$20 rebates. That won't fly, but Amazon will likely do something to match Smilie

Good deal either way.

Well this one doesn't skimp on voltage regulation either which is what your paying for.

8700k and 1080 I'd say 650w but for the 1070 calculator says 550 should be fine.

I think this or the $40ar Corsair TX550m are the best choices. I'm waiting for BF to ditch my 10yr old 550w and I'll take an 8% power savings with a gold

I think you want to be in the 20-60% watt usage for best preformance and life out of the PSU. So whatever wattage those combos take along with all other components, try to have it in that range of the PSU watt rating.

Don't quote me on that % though.

Do not buy it from newegg. I bought a new pc case and tempered glass is damaged during the shipping and newegg does not want to send out just one tempered glass.

They do not have just one tempered glass sitting on shelf.

Start RMA process to exchange the whole unit.

You can't blame vendor for shipping damage.

You cut the UPC before even taking the case out of the box? Interesting.
