BlizzCon 2017 just got underway and Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime has already dropped one big piece of news: StarCraft 2 [pcgamer.com] is going free to play.
The change will make the Wings of Liberty campaign completely free for everyone, while Heart of the Swarm will be given free to anyone who already owns it. Unranked and Versus AI modes are also free, while Ranked can be unlocked with ten "first wins of the day" in either of them. The Kerrigan, Raynor, and Artanis commanders are completely free, and all others are free up to level 5.
StarCraft 2 will go free to play on November 14. Details are up at starcraft2.com [starcraft2.com].

Wow, watta cool idea! Give me my Heart of the Swarm!
Oh, sorry... Already own it...
Btw, since when SC was PAID game? I mean sure you have to buy it. If you want some bells and whistles you have to pay too. But it never been on subscribe basis.

I don't get this. Heart of Swarm is free to anyone who owns it? That doesn't make sense...

I think they mean Heart of Swarm is free for everyone who already owns Wings of Liberty.

Thank you for battling across the stars with us, Commander! As a Wings of Liberty owner, you are receiving the Heart of the Swarm campaign for free as a token of our appreciation. You'll find our special gift to you in the new My Gifts tab of your Blizzard Battle.net app.

To claim your free gift:
1. Open the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app.
2. Click the glowing Gift button located next to your BattleTag on the upper right.
3. Click Claim. A notification will pop-up whenever you have new Gifts to claim.
You can also claim through the Gift tab in the Blizzard Battle.net mobile app.

Make sure to claim your gift before it disappears on December 8, and thanks for your continued support of StarCraft II!

- The StarCraft II Team
I got this email this morning. Thanks for your continued support? I got Wings when it first came out and just got bored of the genre and abandoned the series altogether. Funny how this free gift will probably only affect those that stopped supporting SCII. Still not interested but I'd claimed regardless.
