So here's the action plan - buy the phone full price off VZW, Do not activate it - insert your T-Mo SIM, Call it Quits with VZW - what are the downsides,

The Upsides are
1. VZW devices are unlocked - and T-Mo are NOT.
2. Buying from a Carrier gets you the base price - not the scalper's price

Apple is NOT selling these SIM unlocked at this time.
All iPhones sold from apple.com or Apple stores are unlocked if paid in full. The advantage of getting the Verizon iPhone (either from Verizon or Apple) is it's unlocked and it works on both GSM and CDMA networks, which has a greater resell value. Unlocked T-Mobile and AT&T iPhones work on GSM network only. Also, some people claim that iPhones with Qualcomm modem such as the Verizon iPhones have better signal reception.

If you buy the iPhone from Verizon, Verizon may blacklist your iPhone if you cancel the account right away and/or don't activate it on Verizon, especially on new account. You have more "leeway" if you are adding/cancelling lines on an old established Verizon account.
