I wanted to make SD users aware of a great service before the holidays!
Returnsaver.com
Cost: $49, $10 cash back upon return of first package
Benefit: Print FedEx return ground shipping labels to virtually any retail seller in U.S.
No limit on number of return shipping labels printed during year.
Available for immediate household members to use.

First, I want to say I do NOT work for Returnsaver.com. I am a consumer who does a lot of shopping online due to health constraints. I have been a member for 2 1/2 years and it has been a real money saver for me and my family. I first signed up in January three holiday seasons ago to try it out returning some Christmas gifts. That way if I liked it, I would have 2 holiday return seasons in my year membership. I have used it A LOT and I have never had a package lost or damaged in the return process (out of 33 packages returned). You can sign into your account and see when the package arrived at its destination and the name of the person who signed for it. Because I am a member, I feel the freedom to find great deals online for myself or for gifts, knowing if I don't like them I have return shipping covered. If the store normally deducts return shipping costs, I write in large letters on the sheet you enclose, "NO SHIPPING CHARGE. Used Personal Shipping Service" and highlight it. I have never had a problem. It has more than paid for itself each year!

I am the SDer who originally posted about Returnsaver.com. My apologies about the price. I checked online and did not see a price advertised, so I assumed it was what I was charged this past year. (I must be grandfathered in at the price it was when I joined.) The link I added advertises $10 cash back for returning your first package. That would bring down the cost from $49 to $39.

As for the legitimacy of the service...well, you have to have a fair amount of returns to justify it, but FedEx officially endorses it so at least you know it's not a scam. It works more like a rebate, expecting that enough people won't take full advantage of the program to leave money to pay for the shipments of those that do, plus some profit.

It's worth noting that the service doesn't include pick ups. You have to drop shipments off at a FedEx shipper. Plenty of those around though. http://www.fedex.com/us/retail-sh...types.html

Yeah, I just don't buy from any retailer that I can't get free returns with. Oh, and there's shoprunner which is free for those few moments. Amazon and retailers with local presence covers 99% of my online shopping. Newegg, ebay, and other tiny purchases are the rest. Is there a service that covers all returns? That I would consider. Thanks for letting us know about this though, I'm sure someone will benefit from it!

It's kind of different. PayPal offers to reimbursement on shipping costs, and each claim has a limit of... $15 I want to say? Check the terms to be sure. Return saver on the other hand let's you print fedex ground shipping labels. I've been using the service for a while now and it's pretty great if you deal with outlets that don't offer free return shipping.

Seems like a cool concept. Just FYI to everyone out there, I'm sure this will only affect a very, very, very small percentage, but here's a little excerpt from their "How It Works"
Quote :
The maximum liability for the shipment of any package via FedEx Ground is $100. The maximum liability for any package shipped using a FedEx Return Label created through Return Saver is therefore limited to $100. Please note that Return Saver does not offer insurance coverage of any kind, including but not limited to insurance on any extra declared values.
If you're using this service to return an item greater than $100, please be aware that if it gets damaged, lost, or stolen, you're liable.

I know we have returnsaver reps floating around, if you are reading this slash the price to $9.99 exclusive for SD instead of offering a 7 days trial, maybe some of us will consider it at that point, even i probably will never use it. pretty much for holiday season everyone offer free return, and almost everyone has shoprunner, then paypal will reimburse you, lets say you don't have both( highly unlikely) if you pay with a credit card they will even reimburse you the shipping cost. Now this service becomes worthless to most of us. But when its at $9.99 heck its two cups of coffee i can spare that

In many if not most cases, you're paying for nothing:

We will only provide savings on return shipping charges that aren't covered by the Retail Website. For example, if a specific Retail Website's return policy is to pay for any or all return shipping charges that its customers incur, return shipments to that retailer will not be eligible for return shipping coverage.

And for items $100 or less (unless you like to gamble):

The maximum liability for the shipment of any package via FedEx Ground is $100. The maximum liability for any package shipped using a FedEx Return Label created through Return Saver is therefore limited to $100. Please note that Return Saver does not offer insurance coverage of any kind, including but not limited to insurance on any extra declared values.

No Costco, Sam's Club, or REI:

Generally speaking, you can save on return shipping to any retail website that sells consumer goods to the general public on a regular basis via the Internet. That does not include membership or cooperative buying organizations or clubs, charities, subsidized businesses, auction or classified-ad websites, or subscription rental programs.
