AT&T deal NOT thru Costco -Buy one iPhone X, get iPhone 8 free, at least one new line required.

I just got this deal calling AT&T customer service. Called inorder to activate my new iphone X and also to get an additional line

Customer service representative told me I am eligible for a free iphone 8, with the additional line, as I purchased a new iphone x..

I asked her for an online link on ATT website and she said the promotion just started today and she is not sure it is it online yet.

She was also able to waive the activation fees.
So basically I had to pay the taxes on $700 for iphone 8

I think this is an amazing deal.

What she said is, the first month AT&T will bill you for 2 montly installments and they will credit you back the third month.

So in my case I will be paying $42 out of pocket for new iphone 8,64 GB

This is probably under a 2 year agreement but not a bad deal at all.

Which means it is an installment credit.

You just locked yourself into high monthly service fee for 2 years...

Well, for me I was already locked in as we got 2 new iphone xs. I was going to add an additional line using an old iphone 6. So now instead of using iphone 6, I am getting a new iphone 8 for $42.

I think it is a very good deal if some one is looking get an additional line

I was going to add an additional line using an old device. Now instead of using the old device my family member can use an iphone 8

You got 2 new iPhone X with a 30 months installment payments, you are free to go as long as you pay the remaining payments on those 2 iPhone X. For the "free" iPhone 8, it is free as long as you keep the line for 30 months. There is a difference because with the 2 iPhone X, the total price is the same whether you stay with them for 30 months or choose to go to a cheaper carrier. With the "free" iPhone 8, you are not free to go until 30 months later or else it won't be free.

So the question is: is it worth it to get locked in to a higher monthly carrier for 30 months to get that "free" iPhone 8 or is it better to go to a cheaper carrier such as T-Mobile and save x amount of money for 30 months? I guess it comes down to how much money you would be saving for 30 months vs how much you "need" the iPhone 8 as a third line.
