LG Ultra HD 4k Blu Ray Bare Drive (For Desktops) - $69.99 After email promo code at Fry's

So I needed a Blu Ray drive for a desktop I got recently...and Fry's has a really low price on an Ultra HD 4k Blu Ray Drive.

It was $69.99+ tax after promo code (from the email, have to be a part of there mailing list).

This may be only for store pickup, wasn't available for shipping.

Seems like a good deal for those who want to play 4k blu rays on their gaming PC's.

It was available for shipping when it was posted on other sites 5 days ago. Only 5 days to make it to SD. Not bad.

LOL. You think there were only two sites? There are more than I can count on my fingers and toes. When I met a deal seeker in store while getting a deal now, more often than not when they say "Did you read about it on X?" X is not SD.

I think it comes with some version of cyberlink. But it needs a fairly maxed out machine to play 4K. Like VR level. That's baffling. It also supports 3D by the way.

You don't need a "fairly maxed out" PC to play UHD discs. What you do need is a 7th generation Kaby Lake i3 or better, Intel 630 integrated graphics or better(won't work with AMD or Nvidia gpus), an HDCP 2.2 and Intel SGX certified motherboard. They made it so hard to use these things that I ordered an Xbox One X tonise as a media center. Much more cost effective than replacing my beast of a gaming rig. Just plain stupid. It's like they only want 100 people to buy them...smh

Thanks for posting this - ordered and just cancelled. I have no plans on replacing my 2600k anytime soon.

Yep, if you're looking to rip them, or just to play them on a system older than 7ty gen Intel, just find a FAR cheaper "uHD Friendly" drive.

I'd forgotten about the Intel GPU requirements. Cyberlink lists the playback reqs here:
https://www.cyberlink.com/support...o?id=19144
Very consumer unfriendly to playback 4k discs on PC (I doubt this is Cyrberlink's fault)
