Looking for camera for an upcoming trip... I'vr never had any cam other than Canon power shot... Is this good one to upgrade the high resolution pics, audio looking for a feature, when viewing the video later after it is recorded, can I take snaps of pics from the video within the cam without having to do this in computer using some editing software etc... Bear my ignorance in describing this...

Hmm might be time to upgrade my EPL5. I love having a small mirrorless. It's absolutely the best for trips. Is it the same as a DSLR in terms of low light noise? No but it's sexy, takes good shots, and is a good camera for street photography.

I like the olympus and panasonic micro 4/3 system. Small and fast. This camera is nice and the newer model but i would even recommend the epl6 or epl5 that you can get for cheaper and use the difference to get the 25mm and the basic zoom lens.

I would save the money. I have the epl6 (same thing of yours) and played with this and i couldnt see much difference in normal use.

Nice find. I️ love my Pen F that in got on the refurb deal a couple months back.

If you want a very well rounded all-in-one compact set with no frills, I'd go for the E-PL8 with the 12-50mm kit lens. That lens doesn't get high markings in many regards (quite slow), but is incredibly versatile. Includes a macro mode, lens function button, and both electronic and manual zoom...I️ take advantage of this last one when it comes to controlling the camera remotely with a cell phone. Superb jack of all trades, master of none lens. It'll help you know what you like for future, higher end lens considerations.

If you don't need the extra features of the 12-50mm and want to go ultra compact, go for the 14-42mm kit.

Then if you want a boost up for capabilities, spring a bit more for the E-M5. Perhaps pick up one of those above mentioned kit lenses on the cheap, perhaps used.

If you want another boost of capabilities, MP, and a massive boost in style and fun, grab the Pen-F. Absolutely love mine.

Then if you mean serious business and want to go full on with photography, E-M1.

Oh and be prepared for all the micro four thirds haters and apologetics 😂 the vast majority of people aren't going to be notably affected by the M43 limitations, but will love the advantages.

I had upgraded from my epl5 to em10 mark II a few months back and I love the EVF on my new camera.

Panasonic is known for their 4K video. If video is something you're interested in, check those out.

If you're looking for something more pocketable / versatile, check out the Sony RX 100 IV or a newer / older generation model. (I think this Sony is going to be my next camera, coming from Canon G15).

i used to be into olympus and then i just topped buying them. olympus just keeps making new stuff and provides no support or backward compatibility to the old, very much like apple.

What do you mean? M43 is a standard used by olympus, panasonic, Kodak and Yi. All m43 cameras can mount 4/3 systems lenses with an adapter to use autofocus. All m43 lenses work on all bodies going back to the very first lens and body.

Context:
I own
-EM10 (original) and EM5 ii
- 25mm F1.8
- 40-150 F4.0 - 5.6
- 12-40 F2.8

Here's the thing; I love these cameras. I keep trying to convince myself to sell them and upgrade to a Full frame, but the fact that I love to always have a camera on me (I carry a Peak design side bag as my daily) and this is a small enough system I don't hate myself for carrying them its great. I would love better low light performance, but they are not terrible by any stretch of the imagination. The best part is that the noise / grain as I drop the ISO is actually very consistent/clean.

I have not looked into the EM1-ii but at that price point I would probably start looking at the Sony FF. While I love this camera, I love it for the price category it is in. Picking up an Em10 + some F1.8 prime lenses is about the the best bang for you buck that will give you professional quality images. I only picked up my F2.8 12-40mm since my friend sold it to me at a smoking good deal with the EM5 ii. If you want to run 1 lens for 90% of your needs, it is definitely the lens, but outside of an amazing deal, I'd probably just rock primes depending on your needs.

As a side note, I almost stopped recommending the Em5 ii when my LCD basically fell off (hanging by a ribbon cable) despite being very good with my gear. Olympus wants $200+ for the repair and I'm pretty aggravated since this is obviously a defect. The camera is great, but be sure you check those 2 little screws on the LCD every 6 or so months since they will come loose (I'm not the only one).
