Total Wireless is another of América Móvil's brands (Tracfone's parent company). They all have the same unlocking policy:

For Customers with Total Wireless Phones Capable of Being Unlocked: Total Wireless will provide an unlocking code to customers who request unlocking, provided they meet the following conditions:

(a) Customers must request phone unlocking. Total Wireless will unlock phones of current and former Total Wireless customers without charge. Non-former customers may request unlocking, but Total Wireless may charge a reasonable fee.

(b) The Total Wireless phone must have been activated on Total Wireless Service for no fewer than 12 months with Service Plans redeemed in no fewer than 12 months.

(c) Customers must possess a Total Wireless phone that is not reported stolen, lost, or associated with fraudulent activity.

(d) If a customer in good standing requesting handset unlocking is deployed as military personnel, upon provision of deployment papers, Total Wireless will honor that customer's unlocking request.

They've gotten in trouble with the FCC [fcc.gov] in the past for refusing to unlock phones, so take their unlocking policy with a grain of salt.

Total Wireless piggybacks off Verizon, so uses CDMA, but does anyone know if this model being sold supports GSM as well?

I took a look at their terms and they will only unlock after 12 months of service.

I kind of want to get one of these to use as an action cam considering these can shoot 4k video.

$99 seems like a solid price.

Yes. This phone should have both CDMA and GSM antennas built-in.

I'm assuming no, but does anyone know if it is possible to buy this phone without total wireless? Would like to gift it as a wifi device.
