Possibly some contractors can chime in. Can we just install and submit the information to our insurance companies for discounts, or does it need to be permitted and then we can submit the permit and FLBC / MDC approved code to the insurance companies?

When I installed impact windows / front door I had to get it permitted, then submit the permits and FLBC / Miami Dade # to the insurance company with the print out from the FLBC website. I'm wondering if this is the same thing. In Palm Beach the owner / builder permit was like $100 for the front door.

Not a contractor, but my understanding is you must upgrade all exterior openings (doors, windows, garage door) in order to receive the full wind mitigation insurance discount in the HVHZ.

Note that this product meets 2010 but possibly not 2014 Florida Building Code. Also per OP's link:

"Product is approved for use with a min. 25 ga steel sectional garage door. Four deflection bracket pairs shall be installed in each brace. Three braces shall be used with a 16' wide door; a single center brace shall be used with an 8' wide door. Within the HVHZ, each brace
shall be permanently attached to the host structure as described in the installation instructions."

This product may provide peace of mind during storms and *may* possibly pass your insurance company's wind mitigation test. If you are trying for the full wind mitigation discount, installing an impact garage door may be a safer, though more expensive, bet.
