How loud can these get? Are they useful for lounging near the pool?

I have the soundcore and jbl Charge 3.

Unless you are budget constrained, you must get at least the jbl flip#

I have the original and it sounds very good! Loud and clear sound. For the price it's great.

Thanks, OP. Was wanting this. Most reviews say this is one of the better budget Bluetooth speakers from a reputable brand.

Good speaker for the bathroom or kitchen. However, as others have said, you get what you paid for.

I bought JBL charge 3 for ~$95 on amazon in used like new condition. You can get flip 2 in used like new for like $50 or lower.

Not really great for outdoors. Lacks bass completely and doesn't really get loud enough for open spaces, IMHO. Nice clear sound though, great for indoors, especially for listening to podcasts from a phone or tablet. IPX5 means that it isn't necessarily protected form a quick dunk in the pool, but it might be OK if it does fall in.

That said, it's not bad, comparable to other speakers I've "liked" in the $30-50 range. That comes with the caveat that I've never liked any of those enough to use them enough to use them regularly. Great battery life and a warranty from a reputable company. The small size makes it easily portable in a bag and definitely an upgrade compared to phone speakers.

As with anything it all depends on use case, but waiting for the Anker Premium speaker at $45 would be a great upgrade for music. It has a fuller and louder sound, but is a bit larger and not IP rated. At $34 I'd take this over a $100+ UE Boom 2 or maybe even an $80+ JBL Flip 4 tho

ETA:
The Sony XB20 from yesterday would be a huge upgrade to this. It is similar in size and has the same IPX5 rating, but the sound quality blows the Anker away. Doesn't have as good battery life and it is noticeably more expensive

That Anker is not any better than than the regular Anker Soundcore for 25$. Not louder, not richer, not heavier bass.

My experience was less than stellar. Poor sound and Bluetooth connection issues. Returned it.
