Just saw this integrated amp from Marantz dropped $300. I ordered one to see how it sounds. The good thing with Amazon is you can send it back if you don't like it.
Best price I've seen on a new one.

I talked to Marantz earlier today about Bi-Amping with this integrated amp. It has A/B post so you can Bi-Amp that way if you want to. You can also take the pre-out and add a seperate amplifier and Bi-Amp that way.
I'm a little concerned it won't have enough power to drive my speakers to the ear bleeding levels I enjoy. If so I'll get a Schiit Vidar to drive the woofers and use the Marantz to drive the tweeters.

A few things:

1. "Bi-amping" with this is pointless. It's a 2 channel amp so you're basically splitting those two channels into 4 and then back into 2 (bi-wiring).

2. Don't be fooled by the conservative power rating. These things are beast. I have the PM-8004 (previous year model). It's made in Japan along with Marantz's reference line and is way better than the 500x/600x models.

3. The power amp only mode on this integrated makes it amazing. I use mine to power my front speakers (Monitor Audio RX-8s) when using it in my home theater setup (Monitor Audio RX all around) and then just swap it back into integrated mode whenI want to listen to vinyl (Marantz TT 15-S1)

Lowest price was 800 a few months back, this is sold by a third party, not directly by Amazon.

AVR and integrated amp are apples to oranges.

Why is this a good deal? You can get an Outlaw or Emotiva amp for half the price with 5 channels.

Nice, how do you like the sound of the Marantz + RX8? I have the Onkyo A-9555 + RX6, very clean and precise. I compared Cambridge Azur, entry level Parasound separates and Marantz at the time and the A-9555 came out on top. I haven't heard the higher end Marantz like one OP posted. I might go for a warmer amp next time around since the MA's are so neutral.

The RX8s are far too big for my room. Even with the front and back bass ports plugged, they're pretty bassy. I would have preferred the RX6s that you have, but for $750 locally on CL, the price was right.

All that aside, I think the Marantz holds up its end of the bargain. It integrates perfectly with my AV setup (using a Marantz SR5008 for processing) and sounds great when I re-engage the pre-amp section to drive my turn table using the on board phono pre-amp.

only minor quibble I have is that the PM8004 doesn't have a 12v trigger input to link to my AV receiver. It's not a huge deal since I can power on both amps with the same remote, but it's annoying when I turn on my TV first and the HDMI control only turns on the AV receiver.

SIDE NOTE:

Music Direct is offering the same $900 price (https://www.musicdirect.com/integ...rated-amp) and Accessories4less (Marantz official refurb outlet) has refurbs for $750 (https://www.accessories4less.com/...ier/1.html)

This is an integrated amplifier, meaning that it has a 2 channel pre-amp section built in as well. Although, the pre-amp section is defeatable which allows it to operate as a straight power amplifier.

This particular model has a pretty nice phono pre-amp built in. You would normally expect to pay $200-$300 (and far, far beyond) for a decent phono preamp.

You buy this for dedicated 2 channel listening (music).
