IMPORTANT INFO:

1. How to unlock

This phone can currently be unlocked easily and cheaply by certain ebay sellers. Here is a reputable and verified seller.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Unlock-C...2749.l2649

Make sure to unlock your phone immediately as AT&T can make it impossible to unlock your phone at anytime. Do not wait. Even if you want to save this phone as a spare. Unlock it immediately.

2. How to remove apps:

I spent some time figuring out how to remove some of the bloated apps to make more space in internal memory. I managed to save a significant amount of space.

Here's what I did:

In Settings, go to Apps.

If you had installed an app yourself via Google Play, you'd see an "Uninstall" button for that app, but for the preinstalled apps, there is no way to "uninstall" them. But you can remove them and disable them - not quite the same as uninstalling, but it removes the used storage which is your goal.

Under Apps, open each app you want to get rid of.

Scroll down to the bottom of each app's page. Many apps (e.g. Facebook, Amazon Shopping) will show "App installed from Google Play Store" under "App Details." Tap "App Installed from..." and you'll get its page in Google Play. Now you'll see an "Uninstall" button.

That will remove it - but it will still show as an app that can be updated. Technically it's still "installed" but not taking space - but who cares?

Now hit the back button and go back into the app and disable it.

At this point, it shouldn't get updated anymore, either.

I saved about 500MB by removing Facebook, Amazon, etc. plus as many AT&T apps as possible.
3. Watch out for bloatware

Quote from ahallslickdeal

By the way, if you have this phone, you'll definitely want to disable the "AT&T App Select" app. This is an evil little malware that installs "selected" apps on your phone without your consent (WTF???). I was playing with something on the phone today and noticed two new apps have shown up - two games. Wha? (I don't play games on my phone.) I half wondered if they had been installed as part of some other app I installed on purposel...but they claimed installation by "AT&T App Select." Easy to uninstall those apps, but they use a lot of space on a phone without much storage.

I could not find a way to uninstall "AT&T App Select" completely. You can uninstall updates and then disable it - I hope that will be enough!
Note: tethering/hotspot seems to be locked to AT&T on the Maven 3 - a "feature" of the newer versions of Android I think. Not just locked to the AT&T network - locked to AT&T itself. My FreedomPop LTE (AT&T) SIM did not work with tethering/hotspot nor did a MintSIM (T-Mobile). Both SIMs work for hotspot on an older Android phone I tried the same day - so it's clearly the phone, not the SIM or providers blocking it.

This is a great price for this phone. One thing people should know, though, is that it's no where near 8GB of usable storage. Customers at my store could install Facebook, Messenger and one other app, and that was it. And, for whatever reason, this phone doesn't have the ability to move apps to the SD card.

I just turned my phone on (I took the SIM Card out, and I turned off WiFi, and turned off location as soon as I could get to the settings to turn it off.

Then I checked the space usage, The phone said 4.91 GB used out of 8GB.
Details include:

Available: 3.09GB
System Memory: 4.76GB
Used Space: 152 MB
Cached Data: 320KB

So whoever said they only had 0.5GB left is wrong. You have about 3GB to play with with a fresh out of the box. I just wanted to post this to dispel some misinformation.

Should be able to buy an unlock code on eBay, correct?

AT&T requires 6-months of prepaid service to unlock.

Yes, I am going to do the same thing for an "on the go" music player.

https://www.reddit.com/r/freedomp...e_se_with/

"Technically, the phone is still locked to at&t, its just that the phone sees the freedom pop sim as an at&t sim, and therefore doesn't care that it's locked."

and

"...you need to set the APN (iOS only, and use safari, for android the APN is fp.com/attz), it's not just pop and go with the LTE sims(it would be nice if it was)

These sims are the same ones that Cricket Wireless was using until this year(Jasper)

It is also the case that you can use an AT&T Prepaid phone on AT&T Postpaid without unlocking even if that phone was activated on AT&T Prepaid prior. AT&T Prepaid devices require six months of service(on AT&T Prepaid) before they can be unlocked for other carriers. Except if that carrier uses the same type of SIM card(Jasper or AT&T mobility)
FreedomPop LTE SIMS are Jasper sims."

Just using it for music? Doesn't matter. They will both do just fine.
