A TV without a tuner is not a TV, it's a monitor.

Sorry i forgot to put in Refurbished.

Also this is still a great price for refurb, Newegg has sold over 54 of these refurbished TV's for $690 + $42.75 in California tax for a total savings of $132.75 off newegg's price.

I've heard this before, but do people really still connect their tv's to cable via coaxial cable? Where i live, (California) our cable company went digital about 5 years ago, So you're reqiored to hook up via hdmi/component and can't use the built in tuner regardless. I'm not sure how it works everywhere but i thought this was the norm.

Some people could careless about your cable company. Some people dont even have cable but internet only.
For those, a tuner is a must. And yes, a tv without a tuner is a monitor.

I'm not sure if anyone still connects their cable box via coax, but those of us without cable TV plug our antennas into the coax input and use the TVs tuner to tune in local TV channels.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Still i think calling this a tuner-free or tuner-less TV is more accurate than a monitor. I don't think of a 60" display when i hear the word monitor. Vizio calls it a Home Theater Display.

Vizio calls it a display because FCC regulations require all TVs to include a tuner. It would be illegal to call it a TV. Vizio would get fined by the FCC if they did.

Wow, thats pretty dumb imo. When are they going to get into regulating the usefull marketing bullshit like 60hz vs 120hz? Vizio can claim this display is 960hz, yet can't claim its a TV? lol.

Uhhh, no. I am one of the some people who don't have cable but internet only. A tuner is absolutely not needed. As you said, I have internet. I get all my TV from the internet. Why would I need anything but a monitor?

Because not all people are you.
And the majority will just plug in their antenna to the back of their tv and get some channels.
You =/= everyone else

So it's ok for you to say people MUST have a tuner but when I point out I'm one from your group and don't need it I am wrong. Good logic bro.
