Looking for an unlocked phone for FreedomPop Sim card

1,162 678 November 8, 2017 at 02:33 PM
I bought a 1-cent Sim from FreedomPop to put in a Virgin Mobile cell phone that I gave my 13yo daughter. Unfortunately, the best I can tell, it was a pre-paid phone and can not be unlocked. As such, the sim card allows the phone to work, but only on wifi. So...I need a cheap smartphone to give my 13yo daughter that will actually work outside the house. (I'm limited to 5 phones on my family plan, so I can't add another line. Plus, I couldn't afford another line on the plan even if I could)

Looking for a cheap GSM phone for $40-$50 or so.

Not very helpful--most phones on FP site are CDMA, and because they are so backwards, require a new email address for every phone.

I'm looking for a cheap unlocked (or easily unlockable)
GSM smart phone.

The AT&T Prepaid (formerly GoPhone) phones can be used with the FreedomPop SIM, even though they're still 'locked' to AT&T. (The FreedomPop LTE SIM runs on AT&T).

The Alcatel CameoX is $40 at Best Buy right now, and can be ordered online. It will be $20 when the Black Friday sale starts, and there is a good chance that will be available online at that price during the sale. Last year, Best Buy lowered the prices online a day or 2 before they were available in store, and that may happen again this year.

Walmart will have the AT&T Prepaid Huawei Ascend XT 2 for $50 for Black Friday. I don't think Walmart usually makes their phone deals available online, though. This one is $119 now, and a significantly better phone.
