These speakers are back on sale, $98 amazon/frys & $99 best buy for the towers, $73 for the pair of bookshelves.

Going to compare these towers to jbl studio 230 bookshelves I picked up this week when the sony's went back up. If theyre close keeping the towers

I just picked up a set from Best Buy thanks for post. Rep given. Let me ask you. I went with 2 sets of the bookshelf, center speaker and suv and are thinking about doing a third to get a true 7.1 Dolby atmos. I will be pairing with the $250 Osko receiver. Will this be a good set up? Or should I consider getting the floor speakers and two rear bookshelf speakers instead? Do I need the 7.1 or is 5.1 enough. It's a pretty small- medium size room

Sorry man don't know much about this stuff either. Can only parrot what I read at the avs forums- I hear a lot, if you can fit a third bookshelf instead of the center it's better, but I can't. I think what you're describing would be good.. because tHey also say if you're using a sub anyway, most prefer the sound of the bookshelf cores to the core towers, so I think yourgood with four bookshelves. I'm actually listening to the towers right now, and much prefer the jbl studio bookshelves I got yesterday. Going to return them tomorrow. Probably would like them more if I wasn't directly comparing one after another.

Know nothing about atmos, don't have that or even rear channels. Hopefully someone with more knowledge comes across this.

5.1 is enough. You really need space between your mids and rears to make 7.1 worth it. Pick up a pair of ceiling speakers to add and go atmos 5.1.2. You won't miss the towers if you have a decent sub, but get the towers if it cheaper than buying stands for your front bookshelf speakers
