Didn't see anyone post about this, so thought I'd share. This is my first deal post, so bear with me...

I bought these on "sale" several months ago at $34 on Amazon, and a little cheaper on HSN, since we needed fire alarms, and I figure not having to worry about changing batteries is worth the extra expense.

At this price, they cost how much the previous (P1000, non-10 year battery model with replaceable battery) model cost before (those are now on sale as well I believe).
Looks like we missed it hitting almost $20 on 10/26, but it's still pretty low.

Couple of notes: you are supposed to replace your fire alarms every 10 years, so this basically means you just toss this when the battery's gone...easy!

They aren't doing 10 year batteries out of the goodness of their hearts; it's now a requirement by law in California, per this document (warning, PDF): http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/informati..._Alarm.pdf

They are awesomely small, and you can put them anywhere, which is good, because it's recommended to have one in every bedroom, sleeping area, and in hallways on each floor, including the basement.

Obviously, it's not a smart alarm, and I don't know the detection type, but must be worth it for the convenience and now the price.

Hope this helps!

Seems a bit overpriced and wasteful, and Im not sure Id want to trust a fire alarm after several years to still work on the same battery. We picked up a few at walmart for $2-3 each. Price might subsidized by the local firedept or something though. 9v batteries are cheap and last a while anyways too

I spent $33 per z-wave first alert fire/CO detector. I think it is a much better investment. One is in the garage by the main panel, other in the basement near the furnace and sub panel, one in the kitchen and one in our hallway by the bedrooms (its a small house). Tied into my smartthings.

You probably got the P1000 model, those your have to replace the battery. The product didn't come out until later in the year.
