This is a great deal if you don't have the budget or never really considered getting a dashcam. Can't beat $17. I still have a G1W in one of our cars. It's a battery one and has been working reliable for, hm, at least three years. I'm waiting on a deal for a A119s to replace it sooner or later. Yes, the video quality is not amazing, but it will still show who is at fault in an accident. That's what it's all about.

My battery just gave out at about 3 year mark. Might want to keep an eye on it to make sure it has enough capacity still to be shutting down properly, else last recording gets corrupted.

Or you hook up step-down converter to your car and camera start every time you start your car and shuts down when you switch it off.
Something like that [ebay.com]

I hard wired to car with add-a-fuse so it turns on with car and loses power when car turns off. The problem is once the internal battery is in bad shape, when car turns off and cuts power to the camera the camera does not have enough of a charge to go through proper shutdown sequence and instead immediately cuts off - corrupting final file.

It ships from China so I doubt it's going to be there if you're renting a car soon

I have a different brand dash cam on an add-a-fuse, too, but linked it with the door locks so it stays on. Supposedly it switches to a low power parking mode, but I've still had the car battery die after ~3-4 days sitting in the garage Stick Out Tongue Not a problem if you have one in your daily driver, though.
