The Costco deal with 16GB memory (item 1185003,Nov 17-27) is better than this one with 8GB.
As far as I can tell, all other specs are the same.

No NVMe option on the Costco one which is a HUGE handicap on future proofing. I am about to receive mine. All my research is pointing to not even having an m.2 connector soldered in. If it doesn't have one it's going back.

I opened it up and verified that it does indeed not have have an m.2 connector soldered in. Ours also had a significant backlight bleed so we had a more legitimate reason to return it than simple dissatisfaction.

Based on all my research on the topic of storage expansion and talking to multiple reps at hp, it is safe to assume that if the laptop does not come configured with multiple drives out of the box, then it lacks any connectors for the drives that it doesn't have. So the only option is to upgrade the existing drive.

In terms of what we did in the end, we ended up ordering straight from HP from their Black Friday sale as they are/were running a promo on their care plan that if you don't use it you can get your money back for it. We were able to haggle another 7% off the sale price over the phone. Also bought with Costco card so as long as we don't use the care plan we effectively have a 5 year warranty for free.
