Factory Seconds have cosmetic blemishes such as scratches, nicks, leather imperfections or wrinkles and do not affect the performance, fit or durability of the shoes. -slickdewmaster

Allen Edmonds.com [allenedmonds.com] has the factory 2nd carlyle plain-tie oxford for $149. The shoe has been $249 and rarely goes on sale since I have been following it. They had most colors and sizes when I ordered earlier but only have the walnut left. Shipping is free.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Have this exact same shoe/color.
Bought them 2 years ago (holiday season) from bloomies for $170 new shipped.

That said, I wear them about 20-30 times a year, with suits. I just wore them today for an interview. Some notes:

- I polished the shoes yesterday for the first time. Bought AE Walnut shoe polish from amazon, along with a kiwi applicator brush and a horsehair shine brush. Apply polish onto applicator brush, rub all over shoe, dry, and buff like hell w/ the shine brush. The leather looks like brand new almost (minus the toe creases as stated above, but not really noticeable.)
- Yes, the sole is leather. Yes, I slipped today on a curb of Belgian block. The heel is rubber, which saved me. I do not mind the slipperiness as long as I am careful. I rarely do slip in these shoes, i would say today was the first.
- Not as comfortable as some other shoes. I just bought ecco laced shoes w/ orthotics ($150 total from the walking company) and they are about 50% more comfortable than the AEs. I can definitely walk and work all day in the Eccos (which I do as I commute to NYC for work using the train/subway), and they work great. I can't imagine doing this in the AEs. But of course, the AEs look amazing compared to the Eccos, and definitely comfortable enough to wear for a few hours, or even all day if not too much walking is involved.

I also own the carlyes in black, but do not wear those as often. Both shoes look great though, and will definitely be buying more AEs in the future. (but I feel like new shoes come on sale enough to not justify a seconds price of $150.)

Good luck and keep stylin!

Other styles I like in walnut type color. Carlyle is too good in black color imo

That's a great price on those Carlyles!

I've had pretty good luck in the past with factory 2nds, so I went ahead and grabbed a pair.

I just looked at some of the soles. Forgive my ignorance, but the bottoms looks slippery, i.e. no gripping patterns, etc. How does that work?
