Sounds like a terrible idea, when you can buy a new 4TB hard drive for around the same price, these days.

Sorry, Hard drives are *one* thing I will not buy refurbished.... The value/risk benefit is not there Wave.

I guess it might be a deal, if we knew exactly what refurbished meant. What are we even getting here? The only reason to buy is you think the drive is reliable, but if it's refurbished does that mean something went wrong? who knows. Plus side you have until Jan 31st to return I guess. If you don't mind the hassle.

With any type of storage, what you are storing is orders of magnitude more valuable than the hardware itself Applause. Why take the risk?

I think the risk might be acceptable in the case of a RAID, preferably double redundancy. I have 6 refurbished drives that I have been running for 2 years now with no problems, not that that is a long track record...
