for what it's worth I don't think the 3rd gen for $150 works with alexa/apple home without add-ons like this one does. But I could be wrong, too lazy to check.

The split the 3rd gen into an expensive line that connects with other home automation systems, and the affordable line that doesn't. Since I want HomeKit, I've been on the lookout for a 2nd gen system (initially I was waiting for 3rd gen because I was hoping for a small form factor and that didn't happen haha).
